Caring For Widows

I know this is a wierd thing to post on. Believe me. There are "numerous" verses that deal with "Widows". This comes from the scripture 1 Timothy 5: 1-16. I know what you're thinking. this is going to be a long post. you are absolutely correct!


1 Timothy 5:1-2: "Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity." So you should really treat everybody as family.


1 Timothy 5:3:"3 Honor widows who are truly widows." Note that this does not just mean to honor them, or respect them. This really means take care of them. Take care of Widows who are truly left by their husband, and have no family and nobody for them.


1 Timothy 5:4:"4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God. " So return kindness, love and affection to your parents, and in this case your widowed mother, that is if you have a widowed mother of course.


1 Timothy 5:5:"5 She who is truly a widow, left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day, " This is truly a widow, who loves God and serves the church with a non slef indulgent heart. 1 Timothy 5:6:" 6 but she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives." This is not a Widow for God, but a selfish and decietfull one.


1 Timothy 5:7:"7 Command these things as well, so that they may be without reproach." Teach these to people so people may comfort and provide for other widows. this thing pleases God and it is our rightfull duty to please the Lord in whatever we do.


1 Timothy 5:8:"8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." This is really speaking to us boys and men. so we need to provide for our households, our relatives, and our household members. If we don't, we have denied the faith and we are worse than unbelievers. I don't know if some of you people understand this, but when we are worse than an unbeliever, we are in grave trouble.


1 Timothy 5:9:" 9 Let a widow be enrolled if she is not less than sixty years of age, having been the wife of one husband," enrolled being on the list. this does not mean literally having only one husband, but really being a faithfull wife to her beforehand husband, no matter what he was.


1 Timothy 5:10-16:"10 and having a reputation for good works: if she has brought up children, has shown hospitality, has washed the feet of the saints, has cared for the afflicted, and has devoted herself to every good work. 11 But refuse to enroll younger widows, for when their passions draw them away from Christ, they desire to marry 12 and so incur condemnation for having abandoned their former faith. 13 Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not. 14 So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander. 15 For some have already strayed after Satan. 16 If any believing woman has relatives who are widows, let her care for them. Let the church not be burdened, so that it may care for those who are truly widows."


I'm sorry. I really could spell this out for you, but, as you can see this has been a long post, but I did spell a lot out for you though. and your welcome for that.
