Guidelines For Leaders

1 Timothy 5: 17-18: "17 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. 18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”" Leaders are to be worthy of double-honor. This means that, not just respected, but cared for, and being prayed for, by the whole church. There is going to be a plurality of elders or leaders and pastors of a church. There is also going to be some sort of evaluation of the labor of pastors/elders/leaders.

1 Timothy 5:19:"19 Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses." So, only charge a Leader/Pastor/Elder if there is several witnesses. If there isn't, don't charge him. There has never been a perfect local church on earth, and there will never be. 1 Timothy 20:"20 As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear." If a Pastor/Leader/Elder makes a sin, and bad one; charge him and punish him publicly, so others will fear and try not to sin.

1 Timothy 5:1:"21 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the elect angels I charge you to keep these rules without prejudging, doing nothing from partiality." I don't really have anything on this particular one. Except for the fact that this doesn't just count to Pastors/Elders/Leaders; but it also counts to all other believers.

1 Timothy 5:22-23:"22 Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor take part in the sins of others; keep yourself pure. 23 (No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.) " So, Pastors/Leaders/Elders are to be appointed not to quickly, but in a long and slow route. They are to be holy, and as I said before, sense you are NOT a pastor, this still goes for you as well.

1 Timothy 5:24-25:"24 The sins of some men are conspicuous, going before them to judgment, but the sins of others appear later. 25 So also good works are conspicuous, and even those that are not cannot remain hidden." No one can hide their sin. It is IMPOSSIBLE TO HIDE SIN! And know please that this is not an easy place for pastors. It is really a really hard job. because if the pastor falls, really, the whole church falls. This is realllly important. Hope that this helps your christian life!

So, Ben, do you honor the 'pastors' in your life? What does it mean to honor them? What is a pastor?
